You may have heard it said that essential oils stimulate the limbic system.
What is that?
The limbic system is the central part of the brain where emotions are stored. One of those areas is the amygdala, which plays a major role in storing and releasing emotional trauma. The ONLY way to stimulate the amygdala is with fragrance through the sense of SMELL!
The thalamus is also in the limbic system and controls our vision, touch, hearing, and sleeping and wakefulness. Many people have had AMAZING results using and diffusing oils for these functions, sleeping and wakefulness in particular!
We also have the pituitary gland. Hormones secreted from the pituitary gland help control: growth, blood pressure, certain functions of the sex organs, thyroid glands and metabolism as well as some aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, nursing, water/salt concentration and the kidneys, temperature regulation and pain relief.
Diffusing essential oils is the safest option for methods of use especially when having feelings of …
- racing thoughts
- wanting their brains to shut off at night
- dealing with past fears and/or traumas
- mentally processing something really painful
- difficulty connecting with others because they’ve been hurt
Now you can fully appreciate why diffusing is so awesome! Essential oils are SAFE enough and small enough to cross the blood brain barrier and have an effect on the brain.
Isn’t that incredible?!?
