Handsoap – DIY or Nah?

You know how much I love sweet smelling soap!

As I have mentioned before, the word “fragrance” can hide any combination of 3000+ Synthetic chemicals (some more toxic than others).

But who wants a life of unscented soap?

Not me. That’s why I love this fresh floral blend of oils.

I start with an 2 oz unscented Castile soap and add 9 drops of each essential oils. Then fill the 8oz bottle to top with water. Voila!

BUT if you don’t want go the DIY route…

Yeah, Young Living has you covered and you can use Thieves hand soap. I bought the refill because I already have plenty of foaming pump bottles.

Why choose Young Living

Story Time!

About 20 years ago, I was in a store called Burlington Coat Factory and found a small bottle of patchouli essential oil.

I read great things about patchouli and was excited to find it! I checked the packaging and the label because I wanted to be sure I was getting pure essential oil. Back then, I did not know that companies had a lot of leeway when they use terminology such as “pure“, “natural”, and “therapeutic“.

I opened the bottle and YUCK … I thought I didn’t like patchouli!

Fast forward to today. I realize that I didn’t like the chemically laced synthetic scent they were trying to pass off as PURE.

I’m so grateful for Young Living’s commitment to purity and quality. They prove to me time and time again that I can trust their claims and labeling 🌿…..

If you want a high quality essential oil, Young Living is the best option available.

Greenwashing is NOT a good thing

Do you know what greenwashing is?

It is when companies make false claims of being a “natural alternative” for your home, but they actually contain ingredients that are the opposite. Look at the ingredients and do a quick Google search!

I won’t name names (because I’m not that type of person) and I think they had good intentions in the beginning but now they miss the mark.

When you choose “CLEAN” products, it is so important to know that the ingredients are really safe.

You do not want to expose yourself and your family to harmful things when you don’t have to!
This is especially the case if you have respiratory or skin issues like I do!

If you didn’t know, the Thieves kit (products with a plant-based formula that give an effective, deep clean) has all the basics for you to get started.

Here’s a list of ingredients that may have harmful side effects and you might want to think about replacing

  • Fragrance
  • Lauramide DEA
  • Diazolidinyl Urea
  • Methylparaben
  • Propylparaben
  • Benzisothiazolinone
  • Methylisothiazolinone
  • PEG-2 Cocomonium Chloride
  • PEG-5 Coconate
  • Trideceth-9
  • Phenoxyethanol
  • Sodium Caprylyl Sulfonate
  • Sodium methyl-2 lauryl sulfate
  • Sodium Borate

Thieves Household Cleaner

OTC – Thieves Chest Rub

While I have an awesome DIY chest rub recipe, I like that there is Thieves Chest Rub available. It helps tackle seasonal colds and coughs that you can feel in your chest.

With natural camphor and menthol along with Eucalyptus oil and the power of Thieves, rub this on your chest to help relieve coughs, soothe nasal passages, and keep you breathing easily and comfortable while you recover.

It provides temporary relief of coughs caused by allergies, cold, minor throat and bronchial irritation. The aromatic vapors soothe nasal passages.

Plus, it’s plant based and formulated free of petroleum, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, synthetic perfumes or dyes, artificial colors, preservatives, or GMO ingredients!

AND it has a hands-free application !

DIY Lotion Bars

In my latest DIY project, I made lotion bars and I used the dandelion infused coconut oil I made a few weeks ago along with shea butter and beeswax.

I melted those ingredients in a double boiler (or glass bowl in pot) over medium high heat.

FYI: The beeswax helps it to remain firm in warmer temperatures .

Then I scented the batch with lavender and frankincense because these are both great for supporting healthy skin.

Then I poured the oil into the mold and chilled in the freezer until completely solid.

Side note: I love these cute molds!!!
